pilote pour carte graphique SIS 771/671

Je partage ici une solution pour installer un pilote fonctionnel en haute résolution pour les récents chipsets graphiques SIS 771/671 avec ubuntu 9.10
Le chipset est correctement identifié par un lspci :
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 771/671 PCIE VGA Display Adapter (rev 10)
mais ne me permettait qu'un affichage en résolution 800x600 avec le pilote générique VESA. Toute tentative d'utilisation du pilote xserver-xorg-driver-sis se soldant par un écran noir.
Avertissement : La solution proposée n'est pas officielle, et fait appel à un pilote qui n'est pas inclus dans les dépôts ubuntu. Son utilisation se fait sous votre entière responsabilité, et à vos risques et périls.
Pour l'installer, télécharger le paquet xorg-driver-sisimedia, Gdebi se chargeant de l'installer.
Ce paquet remplacera votre fichier xorg.conf. Pour davantage de sécurité, faites une copie de votre fichier actuel, s'il existe.
sudo cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.orig
En cas d'échec du nouveau pilote, vous pourrez rétablir votre fichier fonctionnel en restaurant votre sauvegarde avec la commande :
sudo cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf.orig /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Après redémarrage de X, vous pouvez enfin profiter de votre résolution optimale, bien plus confortable même si l'accélération 3D n'est pas encore à l'ordre du jour avec ce chipset

malheureusement ca ne marche pas pour moi, j'ai quand meme triture dans tout les sens mais en fait il semble qu'il y ait un probleme quand il veut ecrire dans /etc/X11, gdedi me dit:
dpkg: warning: xorg-driver-sisimedia: conffile '/etc/X11' is not a plain file or symlink (= '/etc/X11')
C'est le .deb qui pose probleme non ?
@feudjay : bizarre, le .deb est correct.
essaie d'installer manuellement les fichiers contenus en l'ouvrant avec le gestionnaire d'archives.
3 fichiers sont à extraire de data.tar.gz :
/etc X11/xorg.conf
/usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/sisimedia_drv.la
/usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/sisimedia_drv.so

Thanks, I chose the nr.3 proposal, copying these 3 files to their directory as suggested and it worked perfectly, a nice improvement to have jumped from 800*600(4:3) to 1280*800(16:10).

Merci pour ce tuyau! Ça m'a permis de régler le problème sous xubuntu, mais pas sous ubuntu. D'ailleurs, je ne trouve pas le fichier /etc/X11/xorg.conf pour le sauvegarder. N'existe-t-il plus sous la version 9,10??

effectivement, avec l'auto-détection, il est probable que ce fichier n'existe pas.

Je lutte depuis plusieurs jours pour configurer le portable de mon fils : CLEVO W76S.
Un lspci me dit que la carte graphique est une SIS 671MX,c'est d'ailleurs pour ça que je suis arrivé sur ce site.
J'ai bien suivi la procédure. J'ai récupéré l'archive deb pour l'installer.
Au moment de l'installation, lorsque je regarde dans la console d'installation il m'affiche ça :
dpkg : avertissement : xorg-driver-sisimedia : le fichier de configuration « etc/X11 » n'est ni un vrai fichier ni un lien (= « /etc/X11 »)
Si je fais un glxinfo | grep "direct rendering" :
il me répond yes.
Si je fais un xrandr j'obtiens :
Screen 0: minimum 640 x 480, current 800 x 600, maximum 800 x 600
default connected 800x600+0+0 0mm x 0mm
Je suis un peu dans la mouise parce que j'ai essayé tellement de choses que je suis un peu coincé. J'ai réinstallé X11, j'ai effacé puis recomposé xorg.conf (à l'arrache), sans compter tous les machins que j'ai installé.
Bref ... est-ce que je dois tout réinstaller ou bien reste-t-il une solution ?
L'ordi est sous Ubuntu 9.4 karmic.

Je viens de faire la manip :
décompression de l'archive .deb et copie à la mano des fichiers dans leurs répertoires respectifs.
Je n'ai malheureusement pas eu de succès.
Dois-je faire un :
sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg
?
le fait que la carte soit une SIS 671MX impacte peut être le bon fonctionnement du pilote.
Je ne saurais t'en dire plus, je n'ai eu aucune difficulté technique avec cette manip, je ne compte pas le temps passé à tenter d'obtenir une résolution correcte avec le pilote VESA puis à trouver un pilote qui marche.

J'ai fait une réinstall puis appliqué le patch et là .... écran noir, le serveur X ne se lance même pas. Je me demande si je vais pas tenter un live CD Mandriva, j'ai vu sur un forum qu'ils implémentaient cette carte vidéo exotique à la c...

je rencontre le même probleme que hugues avec le driver sismedia 0.9 sur un chipset 671MX avec ubuntu 9.10 ( même message à l'installation).
Je ne peux pas utiliser de résolution supérieure à 800x600 xandr renvoie :
Les resolutions en 960 ne sont pas supportées par mon écran .
Avez vous une solution ? Il semble que le chipset MX pose un pb avec ce driver.
Je viens de passer en version Ubuntu 10.04 et le problème redevient le même.... Que faire ?
